OAKWOOD ONE · DOCUMENTATION

A guide to your
school day.

Set up the app, find your way around, and understand how your school information works.

Updated September 11, 2026 for the Today tab and Settings sign-out in version 1.0. Assignment uploads and first submission remain as documented below. Available controls depend on your installed build and the assignment settings.

01Getting started

Oakwood One is a native app for iPhone running iOS 17 or later. It is currently distributed through TestFlight. If you have a TestFlight invitation, open it on your iPhone and follow Apple's installation instructions. There is no public App Store download listed here.

Parent Portal is taking shape. A dedicated parent and guardian view is in development and coming soon to Oakwood One. It is being designed to give families a simple way to stay connected to a student's school day. More details will follow as the feature takes shape.

  1. Open Oakwood One. The Home Screen label is Oakwood.
  2. Choose Continue to follow the welcome screens, or Try demo to explore without a school account.
  3. For school data, sign in through the school's Oakwood Connected page. Complete any Google sign-in, account selection, or verification yourself.
  4. Once your information loads, use the four tabs at the bottom of the screen: Today, Progress, Schedule, and Assignments. School resources and Group Finder open from the books button on Today and Progress.

Oakwood One does not read or store your password. School account access is managed by the school.

02Try the demo

Tap Try demo below Continue on the first welcome screen. You can also enter from the final welcome page or the school sign-in screen.

You will explore as Alex Rivera, a fictional grade 10 student, with Today, six classes, assignments, published scores, bulletin boards, resources, and Group Finder. The schedule follows the current date. Sample reading guides, PDFs, and club pages are included with the app.

Try changing an eligible assignment status. The change stays in the demo and survives closing the app. It never changes a school record. Uploading attachments and submitting assignments are available only with a school account, not in demo mode.

  • Use Settings > Reset demo data to restore the samples.
  • Use Exit demo to return to the normal launch flow.
  • Demo does not need a school account or contact Blackbaud. Opening this public website still uses an internet connection.

03Your school day

TabWhat you will find
TodayCurrent and next class, unfinished work due today and tomorrow, and a missing or overdue warning when that work is known.
ProgressYour classes, published grades, teacher feedback, workload counts, and class bulletin boards.
ScheduleDay and week views with class times and rooms.
AssignmentsInstructions, due dates, and statuses. Open an eligible assignment to attach work and submit it.

School resources and Group Finder open from the books button on Today and Progress. Some destinations require a school sign-in.

04Understanding grades

Grades come from information published through Blackbaud. Oakwood One uses the school's published grade information and does not estimate an unpublished overall grade.

A missing overall grade does not necessarily mean anything is wrong. Your school may not have published it yet, even when individual assignment scores are visible. Pull to refresh when checking for an update.

If a score or school record appears incorrect, compare it with Oakwood Connected and contact your teacher or the school. Oakwood One cannot change grades.

05Assignment statuses

  1. Open an assignment and let its current details load.
  2. If the assignment is eligible, tap its status tag.
  3. Choose To do, In progress, or Completed. For past-due work, Overdue replaces To do.
  4. Wait for the save confirmation. In school-account mode, the change saves to Oakwood Connected. In demo, it saves only to your sample data.

Status editing is unavailable for some work, including graded or submitted assignments, online submissions, assessments, and discussions. The app may also disable editing when it cannot confirm the assignment is eligible.

Completed is a status, not a submission. To send saved work for an eligible online assignment, use the separate Submit assignment action. Changing a status does not send your work.

If a save cannot be confirmed, refresh and check the current status before trying again. Status changes require a connection; the app does not queue them for later.

06Upload and submit work

With a school account, you can attach files and make a first submission for eligible online file assignments. Add work saves an attachment to a draft. Submit assignment sends the saved work when you confirm.

Add an attachment

  1. Open the assignment and let its current details load. Under Your submission, tap Add work when available.
  2. Choose Browse files, Photo library, Take photo, or Scan pages. Camera and scanning options appear on supported devices and ask for camera permission when needed.
  3. Review the selected filename and file size. You can rename the file before uploading; keep its correct extension. Choose something else replaces the local selection.
  4. Tap Add attachment to upload it and save it as a draft in Oakwood Connected. Wait for the assignment details to refresh and check that the file appears under Your submission.
  5. Repeat for another file if the assignment still has attachment slots.

Add one file at a time, up to 20 MB per file. Scanned pages become one PDF, and photos are prepared as JPEGs. The school controls accepted file types and the maximum number of attachments. Duplicate filenames are not accepted.

Submit the saved work

  1. Check the saved work shown under Your submission. Uploading a file alone has not submitted the assignment.
  2. Tap Submit assignment, then read and confirm the dialog. The confirmation warns that you may not be able to change the work afterward.
  3. Wait for the app to confirm submission after checking the saved state with Oakwood Connected.

Draft upload and submission are separate steps. Selecting a file, taking a photo, scanning pages, or tapping Add attachment does not submit your assignment.

Which assignments are eligible?

These actions support a first submission for standard online file assignments that are still open for editing. They are unavailable for submitted, graded, or collected work, ended courses, on-paper assignments, assessments, discussions, and work handled by external learning tools. The app also blocks a write when it cannot confirm eligibility.

Submit assignment requires existing saved work. Add work also requires an available attachment slot. Filling all attachment slots does not prevent submitting an otherwise eligible saved draft.

Google Drive and text submissions

Browse files can include iCloud Drive and installed file providers such as Google Drive. For a Google Doc, export it as a PDF first. A dedicated Google Drive picker, editing saved submission text, and resubmitting work are not supported in this version. Use Oakwood Connected for those workflows.

If an upload or submission is not confirmed

Check the assignment in Oakwood Connected before trying again. The app does not automatically retry uploads or submissions, and an uncertain result can block further attempts in the current session. Do not assume the work was submitted just because the file was selected or uploaded.

Uploads and submissions need a working connection. A selected file is not a durable saved draft until the upload succeeds; there is no background or offline upload queue.

07Reminders

Notifications are optional and remain off until you enable them. Open Settings in the app to choose reminder preferences, and allow notifications in iOS when prompted.

Reminders use assignment information the app has already retrieved. Notifications may contain assignment or course details, but not grades or scores. Your iPhone's notification preview settings control what appears on the Lock Screen.

If reminders are missing, check notification permission and Focus settings in iOS, then open Oakwood One to refresh school information. Background refresh is controlled by iOS and does not guarantee that every school update appears immediately.

08Refresh and reconnect

Pull down on a list to refresh it. Recently viewed content can remain on screen while fresh information loads.

When a school session expires, Oakwood One tries to reconnect while preserving saved content. If the school requires a password, verification code, or account choice, tap Sign in when offered and complete the school's flow.

Saved content can be older than the portal. A cached screen does not mean you are connected or that a pending change was saved. A fresh sign-in, new school information, external resources, assignment status changes, uploads, and submissions need a working connection.

09Privacy and your data

School requests go directly from your device to Blackbaud. Recently viewed school content and preferences are stored on your device. Demo and school-account data stay separate. Files, photos, scans, and their filenames are sent to Blackbaud only when you choose Add attachment. Submit assignment is a separate confirmed action. Uploaded work remains with the school and Blackbaud even if you sign out or reset the app.

The app has no advertising, third-party analytics, or separate Oakwood One server that mirrors your school account. Sign-in takes place on the school's website.

In school-account mode, open Settings from Today or Progress. Account > Sign out removes the saved session, app-owned web sign-in data, school display cache, saved card, and notifications. Seven taps on Version in Settings > About reveal Debug. Reset app to first launch also clears preferences, temporary downloads, and demo data, then returns to welcome.

These actions do not delete your school account or records. iOS permission decisions stay in iOS Settings. A pass previously added to Apple Wallet must be removed in Wallet.

Read the full privacy policy for data handling, service providers, retention, and deletion.

10Troubleshooting

I cannot sign in.

Check your internet connection and complete any steps requested by the school's sign-in page. Contact the school if your account does not work in Oakwood Connected. The app cannot recover a school password.

A class, grade, or assignment is missing.

Refresh the relevant list and compare it with the portal. Some information may not yet be published. If the portal shows information the app still does not, report the issue with your app version and the steps you took.

I cannot change a status.

Check the eligibility notes above. Submitted or graded work and certain assignment types are not editable.

I cannot see Add work or Submit assignment.

Use a school account and a build that includes uploads and submission. Refresh the assignment and check the eligibility requirements. Add work needs a free attachment slot; Submit assignment needs saved work. Neither action appears in demo mode.

The camera or scanner is unavailable.

Camera options require a supported device. If permission was denied, allow camera access for Oakwood in iOS Settings. You can also use Photo library or Browse files.

Where is Student ID?

Student ID is Coming soon in current development. Card scanning and adding a card to Apple Wallet are unavailable in both demo and school-account mode. Older TestFlight builds may differ.

I want a fresh demo.

Open Settings > Reset demo data. To leave demo instead, use Exit demo.

11How it is built

Oakwood One uses Swift and SwiftUI for its iPhone interface. School information appears in native screens; school authentication uses an embedded view of the real sign-in page.

Recently viewed content is cached on the device so it can remain visible during refreshes and reconnects. School display caches are separated by student and school year. Optional reminders are scheduled locally.

The app reads school information and supports explicit status changes, draft attachment uploads, and first submission for eligible assignments. Uploading and submitting each require your action. The school and its service providers remain responsible for school records and account access.
